Union Christian Day School is continuing to expand its buildings and programs to accommodate the increasing numbers of families in Union and surrounding areas who are interested in non-denominational, private Christian education. The maximum enrollment the school can accommodate on the present campus is 220, a number that UCDS anticipates reaching by the fall of 2009.

The rapid growth was evident two years ago, and the UCDS Board of Directors recognized the need for careful, long-range planning. In 2003, they implemented a three-phase building program. The first phase, completed in September of 2004, added four classrooms and a spacious cafeteria. DePaul Engineering, Inc., of Union has been retained as lead design professional for Phase Three, a $1.9 million facility that will house a 500 seat auditorium, ten more classrooms, and a state of the art science laboratory. Maurice Johnson of Spartanburg has been retained as architect for this project.  The auditorium will be a wonderful site for school functions as well as local civic events. The vision of the UCDS Board of Directors is for this auditorium to provide an opportunity for the community leaders and private citizens to come together to offer the people in our area a well designed place to host theatrical presentations, conferences, and community events, as well as give our young people access to early training for the performing arts.

Private and corporate donors are currently being sought for the project. Donors will be recognized on a foundation plaque that will be placed in the vestibule of the new auditorium. The auditorium could bear the name of a substantial donor or group of donors.
